Virginia Helmsmen 2007 Program
“Captured”
The Search for Immortality
This year the Virginia Helmsmen will be performing their program “Captured” The Search for Immortality, a comparison between photography and performance. The original composition by Mike Nevin and James Steinke will stimulate the senses, offering various moods, emotions, and opportunities for perfection.
Photographers search for the one photograph that will be viewed, enjoyed, and studied for generations. This is accomplished by capturing a moment in time, frozen for eternity. Performers strive for the perfect performance that not only supplies instant gratification but also lives on long past that moment in time. We tell our performers, “always perform for the camera; you never know when it’s on you.” Photographers take multiple pictures because they never know when the perfect moment will be captured. Composers hope for the perfect score to make their name synonymous with Beethoven, Bach, or Mozart. Where will the next photographer, performer, or composer achieve their immortality? Look for time to stop, “Captured” for future enjoyment by the 2007 Virginia Helmsmen.
